Team Support Systems goes international under the wing of ORTEC

Team Support Systems in Groningen (TSS), which is known for its sports analysis systems, has signed a collaboration agreement with ORTEC, provider of advanced scheduling system and optimization software. The core business activities of the two companies are so closely aligned to one another that this partnership is essentially a logical step. Both companies develop decision-making support systems that can be applied in the sports industry, but also in other fields such as the healthcare sector. By joining forces, both companies will be able reinforce one another within these areas.
Growing gem
“We are a growing gem,” says TSS Director Gert Jan Wormmeester. “Having ORTEC as a big brother will enable us to go international. That is our objective. Conversely, we will be able to help ORTEC establish a more prominent position in the sports industry. Furthermore, our prototypes are already being tested in a number of other fields. For example, hospitals use our models to optimize patient care. ORTEC will also be able to benefit from this by ‘adopting’ our models. ORTEC Commercial Director Daan Boon added: “We had already been planning to broaden our horizons within the sports industry for some time. As the main sponsor of the ORTEC Rotterdam.Nesselande volleyball team and the Dutch national volleyball team, we were already involved in the development of systems for analyzing the results of top teams. However, although these systems can be applied to all team sports, they are now used primarily in volleyball.”
Clear
Wormmeester: “Our objective is to first establish ourselves in the soccer world in The Netherlands, after which we will try to establish ourselves internationally. We will start this year by conducting in-depth analyses for the Dutch Premier League. The Arnhem soccer club Vitesse is already using the TSS software. Assistant Coach Pieter Huistra is enthusiastic about the system: “It is so clear that every coach and player understands everything immediately. Many fundamental errors can be discussed immediately at half-time. The advantage of the system is that all actions and types of statistics are linked to soccer game footage that is available online via a laptop, even from the dugout during games.”

Team Support Systems (TSS) develops decision-making support systems for organizations that are involved in measuring performance and selecting teams: sports teams (soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, hockey, baseball) and teams within companies (ICT teams, project teams, medical care teams). TSS systems are based on the expertise of the University of Groningen’s Quantitative Logistics research group, which is run by Prof. Gerard Sierksma, and the Interfaculty Center for Movement Sciences run by Dr. Koen Lemmink.
