Farm Trans Tunderman takes the next step in optimizing its scheduling and routing with ORTEC

The merger company Farm Trans Tunderman, distributor of agricultural raw materials and frozen products, is rolling out the ORTEC Transport & Distribution scheduling and routing system at Tunderman. Already a satisfied customer of ORTEC, Farm Trans has been using the system since they made a transition from the SHORTREC scheduling and routing package one year ago. “With SHORTREC, we were able to save 10 percent and we’re looking forward to taking that a step further with ORTEC TD,” said Farm Trans Tunderman director Theo Bos.

Multi-user
Due to the logistic service provider’s continual growth and the need to schedule more orders, it was most important for the system to be multi-user friendly. “ORTEC TD allows for several people to work simultaneously. Additionally, it has a better link with the onboard computer and we can now schedule further in advance,” reported Theo Bos. He is convinced that ORTEC TD will also produce a considerable increase in efficiency. “Anyone can ship a car from point A to point B. However, without ORTEC TD, we would definitely not be able to manage any longer without taking on at least three additional planners.”
Conversion
At Tunderman, however, scheduling is still done manually. Theo Bos indicated that he sees a considerable difference between the two companies. “I have noticed that Tunderman is currently in the initial phase that Farm Trans was experiencing a year ago. People don’t want a new method; they want things to remain as they are. That’s why the planners have to be convinced. But I already know that in three months’ time they’ll say that they can no longer manage without it.” According to Theo Bos, the transition from pen and paper to a screen is always difficult: “You have to teach people to change their way of thinking. Fortunately, ORTEC really does help.”

Merger
Farm Trans Tunderman was established as the result of a merger between Farm Trans and the distributor Tunderman. With 140 trucks and 90 drivers, Farm Trans Tunderman (FTT) transports potatoes, cattle feed and frozen and refrigerated products all over Europe. Farm Trans has 90 bottom unloaders at its disposal that are used daily throughout Europe. Charters are also used where necessary.
