Software tools allow for optimal load space utilization within the planning process

“Oh no! The last two pallets don’t fit in the truck,” or “Why in the world are there two meters of extra space”? It is situations like these that loading foremen, supply chain managers, planners, warehouse, dispatch and fleet managers try to avoid at all cost. The efficient and timely planning of delivery orders presents a special challenge, es-pecially in companies with a wide range of products requiring diverse packing pieces. But software manufacturers have come up with a solution! ORTEC LOGIPLAN in Wildeshausen, Germany, a subsidiary of the Netherlands-based Ortec Group, has developed a software-supported process controlling system that optimizes the com-plex planning tasks in transport, procurement and distribution logistics. The LoadDesigner software is comprised of carton, pallet and load space calculation in a three-step process. It supports order picking, loading and capacity planning while optimizing internal processes.

Within a matter of seconds, the system renders clear and concise specifications for work preparation, leading to planning confidence. LoadDesigner can be integrated effortlessly into existing IT and EDP structures and is available as a Windows appli-cation as well as a special version for SAP users. The goal is to calculate human resources to match demand, minimize load time and reduce the number of dispatch and transport units, all of which ultimately impact freight costs.
