TNT Innight decides to buy ORTEC's Routing & Scheduling system
Published on August 5, 2004
ORTEC successfully completed the implementation of SHORTREC for route planning & scheduling at TNT Innight in Nieuwegein, The Netherlands. As a result of a thorough vendor selection process, TNT Innight decided to replace their existing system with SHORTREC to support their tactical planning and vehicle routing processes. The most important reasons for this decision are the availability of specific SHORTREC functionality (like multi-depot scheduling and scenario analysis options), the level of detail of the NAVTEQ’s road maps used (street level detail for exact geo-coding of customer addresses) and the quality of routes generated by SHORTREC.
Local Distribution Operation
TNT Innight handles more than 18,000 shipments per night. These shipments are mostly local deliveries often resulting in routes with more than 100 deliveries. In such a high-density routing environment, the use of NAVTEQ’s accurate and detailed road maps in SHORTREC is very important. SHORTREC is used as a tactical planning solution at TNT Innight, where efficient routes can be easily updated on a regular basis as a result of changes in client and shipment characteristics.
Besides this SHORTREC is used to respond to requests for proposals. Using SHORTREC, TNT Innight is able to send out proposals to (potential) clients faster, while providing more detailed information on how the client’s shipments will be distributed efficiently.
TNT Innight’s dispatchers use a “dual-screen” setting with two 19” flat screens. A planning board together with order & truck details is presented on 1 screen and the graphical road map is shown on the other screen. SHORTREC has extensive functionality to select and (re) schedule orders from the map view.
Why ORTEC?
Peter de Zwart, Manager Information and Communication Technology: ‘TNT Innight selected ORTEC because the offered route scheduling functionality perfectly meets TNT Innight’s requirements. Furthermore, we have confidence in the expertise of ORTEC in the area of complex route planning and scheduling. ORTEC also provides professional consulting services and is able to help us analyze other logistics business cases as well. SHORTREC has been implemented in a short timeframe and it already interfaces with our information system. Subsequently, ORTEC has provided effective user training sessions. So far, we are very satisfied using SHORTREC for our route planning and scheduling processes.’
